"Room for Doubt" will take over the space within and around the Theater Aufbau Kreuzberg, inviting viewers to reflect on various artistic perspectives on water. The program aims to engage with its audience on their terms and discover unexpected relationships and shared emotions.

"Water-Bound" is curated based on two recent projects: "Words on Water," exhibited at Vienna's Hinterland Galerie, and the video program "Kariz, Dark, Wet, and Moving," featured in the 36th Les Instants Video festival in Marseille.

​Water is political; in certain geographies, water demands to be hidden to be saved, while its green side effects can be known or sensed. The consequences caused by the power given to those who control water still stretch into our contemporary times. In this critical moment, water has become a battleground—from environmental fronts to liberation and anticolonial movements, from fighting with water and the challenge of remaining afloat on the sea to tensions for and around water.

"Water-Bound" revolves around a crucial element of life, exploring diverse artistic expressions. Water, simultaneously a vital means of transport and a natural divider, evokes a myriad of emotions and connotations. It can be synonymous with poetry, spirituality, and a source of healing, yet it can also take a deadly turn during natural disasters and human-made destruction. In an era where the global landscape is shifting from energy resource conflicts to escalating tensions over water, this exhibition seeks to shed light on the pivotal role water plays in our devastated environment.

Water-Bound coincides with the Iranian New Year and the wish to start anew and end the 2nd evening of the year with a special audiovisual performance by Running Pine.

The "Words on Water" project showcases different artistic perspectives on water and its crucial role in our lives, which is now affected by political, environmental, and economic factors. In this one-day presentation, the first "Words on Water" project has evolved into a complex and multi-faceted multimedia tapestry. This compilation features a variety of viewpoints from different geographies and mindscapes that explore the concepts of borders, the politics of inclusion and exclusion, collective memory, and actionable change.

"Kariz" a Persian word for Qanat in Arabic is a remarkable invention for transporting water for long distances underground. It is almost invisible when standing in front of the landscape it inhabits. You need to go deep under or watch it from a bird's eye view to understand its complex moving patterns. Curated from the archives of Limited Access Festival and Parking Video Library, "Kariz: Dark, Wet, and Moving" delves into the connections between the past and present, nature and abstraction, and individual stories within a broader narrative.

Live Performance by Running Pine

Running Pine will transport us via live ambient music with elegantly curated to enhance the overall atmosphere, facilitating a conducive environment for heightened observation and immersive experiences. Furthermore, as the exhibition draws to a close, the ambient music will seamlessly transition into a more abstract and experimental electronic genre, providing a thoughtfully crafted conclusion to the event.

Das Programm zielt darauf ab, mit dem Publikum in Kontakt zu treten und unerwartete Beziehungen und gemeinsame Gefühle zu entdecken.

"Water-Bound" dreht sich um ein entscheidendes Element des Lebens und erkundet verschiedene künstlerische Ausdrucksformen. Wasser, das gleichzeitig ein lebenswichtiges Transportmittel und ein natürlicher Trenner ist, ruft eine Vielzahl von Emotionen und Konnotationen hervor. Es kann ein Synonym für Poesie, Spiritualität und eine Quelle der Heilung sein, aber auch eine tödliche Wendung nehmen, wenn es um Naturkatastrophen und vom Menschen verursachte Zerstörung geht. In einer Zeit, in der sich die globale Landschaft von Konflikten um Energieressourcen zu eskalierenden Spannungen um Wasser verlagert, versucht diese Ausstellung, die zentrale Rolle des Wassers in unserer zerstörten Umwelt zu erhellen.

Water-Bound fällt mit dem iranischen Neujahr und dem Wunsch nach einem Neuanfang zusammen und beendet den zweiten Abend des Jahres mit einer besonderen audiovisuellen Performance von Running Pine.
