That Anna Popa leads a high-profile institution with verve, intuition and staggering efficiency is obvious after two minutes of speaking with her. She does this in Sfantu Gehorghe a beautiful town in a region of Romania which is 80% Hungarian speaking and the home to many minorities, among them a significant Roma component.
The Festival RomAtak will host one of their performances - hopefully - in September: “Of men and potatoes” - which draws attention to a horrific accident within the Roma community and the social (non-)reaction to it, exemplary for a general status quo which needs to be changed.
Until the theatre can practice their art again they find innovative ways to stay in touch with their public and tell the stories they believe in.
Enjoy half an hour imagining the reality over there, where Ana Popa has no doubt that we will emerge stronger from this particular period of time.

Dass Anna Popa eine hochkarätige Institution mit Elan, Intuition und umwerfender Effizienz führt, wird nach zwei Minuten Gespräch deutlich. Sie tut dies in Sfantu Gehorghe, einer wunderschönen Stadt in einer Region Rumäniens, die zu 70% ungarischsprachig ist und in der viele Minderheiten leben, darunter eine bedeutende Roma-Komponente.
Das Festival RomAtak wird - hoffentlich - im September eine ihrer Produktionen zeigen: "Von Menschen und Kartoffeln" - der die Aufmerksamkeit auf einen schrecklichen Unfall innerhalb der Roma-Gemeinschaft und die soziale (Nicht-)Reaktion darauf lenkt, beispielhaft für einen allgemeinen Status quo, der geändert werden muss.
Bis das Theater seine Kunst wieder ausüben kann, finden sie dort innovative Wege, um mit ihrem Publikum in Kontakt zu bleiben und die Geschichten zu erzählen, an die sie glauben.
Genießt eine halbe Stunde, um in die Realität dort drüben einzutauchen, wo Ana Popa keinen Zweifel daran hat, dass wir aus dieser besonderen Zeitperiode gestärkt hervorgehen werden.
