Für den 19. Mai 2019 rufen DIE VIELEN zu bundesweiten GLÄNZENDEN DEMONSTRATIONEN in Berlin und weiteren Städten auf: Für ein Europa der Vielen! Solidarität statt Privilegien. Die Kunst bleibt frei!

Die Einschränkung der Kunstfreiheit ist in Ländern Europas wie der Türkei und Russland, aber auch innerhalb der Europäischen Union in Ungarn oder Polen bereits bittere Realität. Die Bedrohung der Kunstfreiheit ist auch in Italien oder Österreich nicht unrealistisch. Auch in Deutschland sowie in weiteren EU-Staaten könnte die Kunstfreiheit durch nationalistische oder rechtsautoritäre Regierungsbeteiligungen in Gefahr geraten.

Die Länder der Europäischen Union bilden selbst eine Vielfalt der Lebensentwürfe und Kulturen ab. Ihre politische Ausgestaltung muss getragen werden von der Idee eines Europas der Vielen: Ein solidarisches Europa, das sich nicht immer weiter abschottet, sondern sichere Zugänge schafft, für Menschen aus nicht-europäischen Ländern, die hier leben wollen. Auch Künstler*innen, Intellektuelle, Andersdenkende und Menschen mit anderen Lebensentwürfen werden aus Ländern Europas und Orten in der ganzen Welt zur Emigration gezwungen. Asylrecht und Freizügigkeit wie die Kunstfreiheit sind miteinander verbunden – Kunst entsteht nicht innerhalb nationaler Grenzen. In den unterschiedlichen Verfassungen und in der Erklärung der Menschenrechte wird das Asylrecht wie die Kunstfreiheit benannt. Beide sollen den Anforderungen eines Europas der Vielen gerecht werden und sollen auch den Vielen aus nicht-europäischen Ländern ein Leben in Würde sicherstellen. Sichere Fluchtwege, Solidarität und eine offene Gesellschaft gehören für uns unteilbar zusammen mit dem „Recht, am kulturellen Leben der Gemeinschaft frei teilzunehmen ...“ wie es in der Erklärung der Menschenrechte heißt.

The restriction of artistic freedom in European countries such as Turkey and Russia, as well as within the European Union in Hungary or Poland, is already a bitter reality. Threats against artistic freedom are also not unrealistic in Italy or Austria. Artistic freedom in Germany and other EU countries could become endangered when nationalistic or right-wing authoritarian political parties become a part of governing coalitions.

The countries of the European Union themselves represent a diversity of lifestyles and cultures. Their political structure must be supported by the idea of a Europe of the many. A solidary Europe that does not increasingly seal itself off, but instead provides safe access for people from non-European countries that want to live here. Artists, intellectuals, those who think differently and people with different lifestyles are forced to emigrate from countries within Europe and from places across the world. The right to asylum and freedom of movement are connected to artistic freedom – after all, art is not created within national borders. Like artistic freedom, the right to asylum is named in numerous national constitutions as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Both are needed to ensure a Europe of the Many, where everyone, also the many from non-European countries, can lead a dignified life. We believe that safer routes, solidarity and an open society belong as indivisibly together as the “…right to freely participate in the cultural life of the community” cemented in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
